Yes, tap water is drinkable.

The question that comes to mind after reading my article "Can You Drink Tap Water in Veracruz Nieto Mexico?" is, "How can I really know whether it is safe for my child to drink water from the tap?"

With all of the health risks that have been associated with drinking unfiltered or contaminated water, the answer is, of course, you can not trust human consumption. There are many cases of cancer and other life threatening diseases that were caused by drinking contaminated water.

So why would you want to drink tap water? What type of harm could it cause? It is because of these questions that I wrote the article mentioned above. In fact, I had to face the question "Are you sure that it is safe?"

The answer I give is a definitive "Yes" as I was unable to find any documented case where human consumption has caused any harm to humans or the environment. In most countries, this type of drinking water is not required to be publicly tested. Therefore

Reminder

Always take extra precautions, the water may be safe to drink when it leaves the sewage treatment plant but it may pick up pollutants during its way to your tap. We advise that you ask locals or hotel staff about the water quality. Also, note that different cities have different water mineral contents.
