In my opinion, the best way to determine what is in your drinking water is by using a reverse osmosis system and doing a home water test. You can buy one of these units for about one hundred dollars or less and are straightforward to operate. All you need to do is fill up a minor pitcher with tap water, attach the special osmosis membrane to the top and turn it on. The water will pass through the porous membrane, and you will get a reading of how clean or dirty the water is. If you want a precise reading, add a few drops of your preferred laundry detergent.

This type of system filters out large particulates that would otherwise be filtered into the tubing that the faucet uses. This means that if you are filtering river water or even ocean water, you are probably not getting the freshest possible water, and the result might be cloudy or murky looking. This will likely mean that you have to purchase a portable water testing kit to check for contamination when you are on the go and do not have time to invest in a more expensive filtering system.

The other option is to use a portable water purification system that can be taken along on a camping or hiking trip. Just be sure that it can handle the size of the container that you will be filling with water from a stream or creek. One of the best brands is Brita, and it is pretty affordable. If you like the taste of mineral water but you don’t like the chemical content, try a potassium sorbate filter. It is also great on fruits and vegetables.

Heraklion Drinking Water

In 2021, I went to Heraklion, Greece, on vacation. While there, I had the opportunity to sample a wide range of local beverages – refreshingly varied and refreshingly delicious. My first reaction when I tasted the waters was that it was exquisite! For me, the water quality must be considered if you plan on visiting the area for an extended stay.

On another day, we decided to try the “town water,” which is the potable supply most people have in their homes in Greece. As it turns out, it had all of the good qualities I had hoped for in a “drink.” It was clear and clean, had an excellent taste, and did not give me any stomach aches or aggravate the flu. The only drawback I found was the price – it was considerably more than I had been told and that I could not drive to the store to buy some water from there. I eventually solved this problem by getting a bucket of tap water from a neighborhood municipality on my return trip.

In 2021 I also took the chance to sample a couple of other local offerings. My next trip to Heraklion was not as successful as the previous ones, though. Upon my arrival, I discovered a local municipality that serviced all of Attica, meaning that this particular town had no means to get its drinking water to me! Fortunately, I was able to find a small retailer in my hometown that sold water from the area’s supply. I was able to get some of this water to me on the following day. I noticed right away that the water tasted strange, unlike some of the other places I had visited, so it was a relief to know that it was a great product. With the help I got from the pharmacist, I made a judgment call and decided to purchase a large bottle of Heraklion Greece water to try out.

Heraklion Bottled Water

The Heraklion bottled water can be found on the streets of Athens and the shopping districts. It is produced by the Kavo Greco-Roman Company using the purified steam from seawater. The company’s own words say that all the Heraklion bottles are filled with pure water, which has been filtered through four different stages. At every step, the water passes through a double filter to remove any sediment that might harm the taste. There is also no provision for carbon filtration as this would increase the cost significantly.

The quality of the Heraklion bottled water is excellent. However, it is somewhat expensive as compared to the other types of bottled waters available. If you are on a strict budget, you should be happy to know that there is a Heraklion supply contract with the Greek postal service called “Zerkalozei.” This contract allows the customer to send in his bottle of Heraklion water at any point in time. It will be delivered free of charge within Greece. The quality of this water will vary slightly as the postal service does not sample the bottled water. However, the water is still ideal for drinking and for making tea and coffee.

I believe that Heraklion is more expensive than other bottle brands because the water tastes better. I have drunk Heraklion from three bottles and have never detected a flavor or smell of chemicals or soap. The price of the bottle also includes a two-year guarantee, so if you drink enough Heraklion, you will not have to worry about your investment diminishing. I have friends who drink Heraklion regularly, and all of them are satisfied with the taste. I think they would change their minds if I told them that Heraklion tasted terrible. However, it does seem to suit my palate better than some of the other brands of bottled water that I am used to.
