This includes Alice Springs in South Australia. The residents there have lived for generations with excellent quality water from springs that have been there for thousands of years. Recently, these same residents have experienced a sudden influx in illness, and fatalities have occurred as a direct result. So what has happened?

The primary reason for the contamination is geothermal drilling. There are two main basins where the water is stored. One area has always had higher quality than the other. This area was selected as the site for the drilling because the temperature and geothermal gradient was ideal for producing the high quality mineral water.
