>Filtered, Pure Drinking Water for your family with a Home Water Filter! There’s a pretty wide variety of home water filters available. From the very inexpensive on-tap filter to the excellent and extremely popular water ionizer, you can be sure to find a safe, reliable way to purify your drinking water. Search around the web, and you’ll see that there are all sorts of comparisons and tests available online on a plethora of water filter types and water ionizer brands, and a lot of them contradict each other! So how are we to decide which brand and model to purchase? I’ve included information about how three popular types of inexpensive on-tap filters work: Activated Carbon (the most common on faucet filters), Particle, and Resin water filters. Often, a combination of two or more of these filtration systems will be used for the more complex whole-house systems.
Why should I buy a water filter? You may believe your tap water is just fine. Well, water, for instance, is merely a great tasting in many parts of the world. Of course, in other parts of the world, it can be pretty bad, even toxic. But if you’ve tested your well water (regularly, naturally), and it shows clean and relatively pure, then you probably don’t need a water filter. BUT… if you’re on city water and depend on others to make sure your water is as clean as possible, you may want to consider a water filter for your family. A lot of municipalities have water that isn’t pleasant to taste or smell. The water itself may be perfectly safe, but depending where you’re getting your “city water,” it could have an odor of sulfur, chlorine, or any other number of unpleasant odors. Some municipal water even will have a slight tinge to the color, making it appear unpure. As well, people are becoming more and more concerned with chemicals which are added to our city water systems. Many (myself included) don’t want to ingest all the chemicals the city puts in our drinking water to “purify” it. Whatever the reason, an on-tap faucet mount water filter is relatively inexpensive compared to other methods of filtration, so it is worth a try. So a water filter is worth the low cost if for nothing else, but peace of mind that the water you’re drinking has been filtered. Then, you’ll want to try a water ionizer. There are incentives and free samples of ionized water that can be had, which will show you just how incredible the water ionizer machines are.
Activated Carbon FilterThe activated carbon filter is probably the most common element in an on-tap faucet mount water filter. This is the most effective type of filter to remove organic contaminants. Organic contaminants, which include chemicals, are most often responsible for taste or order problems with your water. What happens when water passes through this filter is that the carbon particles will attract and remove these contaminants, which may include items such as lead, mercury, copper, hydrogen sulfide, and chlorine.
- Granular activated carbon filters contain a cartridge full of activated carbon granules. The filter’s numerous carbon granules remove substances dissolved in the water, such as heavy metals and harmful chlorine, and trap unwanted particles.
